The How To Of A Prayer Group

If you are thinking of starting a prayer group there are a few things you have to keep in mind. A prayer group differs from a Bible study group or any other kind of gathering and therefore a prayer group has certain basic "rules" you have to keep to.

The basics of a prayer group:

  1. Have a set time for your prayer group
  2. Do not get guest speakers as it is not a Bible study group
  3. Read only a few short pieces of scripture
  4. The group must not be too big, no more than 6 to 8 members
  5. Keep it informal so that everyone can feel at home
  6. Make sure you incorporate variation to suit all kinds of personality
  7. Make sure there is good communication
  8. Keep a prayer journal
  9. Make sure there is no gossiping taking place
  10. Make sure the meeting is not too long, no more than one hour
  11. Keep in mind that there are different ways to pray
  12. Because there are not a lot of people in the prayer group singing will not really be effective
  13. You can sometimes pray scripture such as the Psalms
  14. If you feel like coffee or tea, leave it for after the meeting
